Describe a time you had to influence a critical decision where stakeholders had conflicting interests. How did you navigate the politics?
Model answer
Model answerI was leading a platform decision that would benefit the mobile team but slow down the web team's quarterly goals. Both directors wanted different things and were pushing hard. Rather than choosing sides, I ran a workshop where each team mapped out their constraints and long-term goals. We realized mobile adoption was the future revenue driver. I helped the web director reframe their Q2 goals to support mobile and committed to additional engineering resources for their priorities in Q3. By showing this wasn't zero-sum and involving them in the solution, I built buy-in instead of resentment.
